Capture Wildwood: Artists & Photographers, This One's for You!

Wildwood is about to become one giant canvas.

The City of Wildwood's 12th Annual Plein Air Art Event is returning this summer, and this year it's getting a fresh new twist that invites even more creativity from local artists and photographers.

If you've ever admired the beauty of Wildwood's rolling hills, scenic trails, historic landmarks, or charming neighborhoods, now is your chance to turn that inspiration into art.

What Is Plein Air Art?
En plein air" is a French phrase meaning "in the open air." Traditionally, plein air artists create their work outdoors, capturing landscapes and scenes directly from nature and their surroundings. This year's event expands on that concept by giving artists and photographers a special Wildwood-inspired theme and three weeks to create one or two original pieces based on that inspiration. The official theme and guidelines will be revealed on July 17, and from there, the creative adventure begins!

How It Works
Participants will have from July 17 through August 7 to create their artwork or photography submissions. Whether you're a seasoned artist, hobby photographer, or creative student looking for a fun challenge, this event is a unique opportunity to showcase your talent while celebrating the community we all love.

Important Dates

• July 17, 2026: Theme and guidelines are released.
• July 20, 2026 | 8:30 AM: Registered participants will receive the theme and event details via email.
• July 17 – August 7, 2026: Artists create and submit their work.
• August 7, 2026 | 4:00 PM: Final deadline for artwork submissions at Wildwood City Hall.
• September 19, 2026: Celebrate Wildwood returns, featuring the awards ceremony and public art exhibit.

See (and Buy!) Local Art
Beginning in mid-August, submitted artwork will be displayed in the lower lobby of Wildwood City Hall, transforming the space into a gallery filled with local creativity. Visitors will have the opportunity to view and purchase original artwork leading up to and during Celebrate Wildwood on September 19. One unique aspect of the event is that all artwork submitted for judging must be available for sale, giving artists a chance to connect directly with collectors and community members.

Awards and Recognition
Prizes will be awarded in both Traditional Media and Photography categories, including:

• Best of Show
• First Runner Up
• Honorable Mention

Student artists will also have the opportunity to compete for special student awards.

Best of Show and First Runner Up winners will have their artwork presented to the event's major patron, creating a lasting connection between Wildwood's artists and community supporters.

Participation is just $25 for adults and $10 for students under 18 when registering before August 7.
